Jerry Burruss
Jerry
Burruss is unique. Blind since birth and with little formal education Jerry
has developed a guitar and vocal style all his own.
Given a
guitar when he was about 13 years old, and left alone with it, Jerry learned to
play songs he heard on the radio. Unable to see and with no one to teach
him Jerry developed his own playing style. Holding the guitar in a
traditional way he frets with his left hand over the neck and picks with his
thumb.
Now 70
years old Jerry still lives in rural Pennsylvania where he grew up. He has appeared
on the stage of WXPN's World Cafe and can be found playing in an ever widening
area around Philadelphia.
I am
fortunate to be able to spend studio time with him and some of his friends and to
record just a few of the 500+ songs in his repertoire.
A
documentary film about Jerry is in the works and you will find information about
it here when it is available.
You can find out
more about Jerry including dates and venues of his live appearances at
www.jerryburruss.com. Its a
nicely done site and worth a look and, of course, a listen.
